چکیده

We present a study of 67 Oxford bicompartmental total knee replacements performed at a district general hospital. In this general orthopaedic unit, 57 of the knees (85%) had significant relief of pain with a mean fiexion range of 95#{176} and a mean fiexion deformity of only 9#{176}. There was a noticeable difference between osteoarthritic and rheumatoid knees. Poor results could be directly related to an avoidable postoperative complication. The results of this independent assessment may be compared favourably with the previously published series from the specialist centre at which the prosthesis was designed.

Early Results of Oxford Mobile Bearing Medial Unicompartmental Knee Replacement (UKR) with the Microplasty Instrumentation: An Indian Experience

Background: Oxford medial unicompartmental knee replacement (UKR) is indicated in patients with anteromedialosteoarthritis (AMOA) of the knee. Microplasty (MP) instrumentation was introduced in 2012 as an improvement overphase 3 instrumentation. Advantages of this instrumentation include conservative tibial cut, decreased tibial re-cut rateand improved component alignment. We report the results...

An analysis of the Oxford hip and knee scores and their relationship to early joint revision in the New Zealand Joint Registry.

We analysed data from the Oxford hip and knee questionnaires collected by the New Zealand Joint Registry at six months and five years after joint replacement, to determine if there was any relationship between the scores and the risk of early revision. Logistic regression of the six-month scores indicated that for every one-unit decrease in the Oxford score, the risk of revision within two year...

Assessing patients for joint replacement: can pre-operative Oxford hip and knee scores be used to predict patient satisfaction following joint replacement surgery and to guide patient selection?

We obtained pre-operative and six-month post-operative Oxford hip (OHS) and knee scores (OKS) for 1523 patients who underwent total hip replacement and 1784 patients who underwent total knee replacement. They all also completed a six-month satisfaction question. Scatter plots showed no relationship between pre-operative Oxford scores and six-month satisfaction scores. Spearman's rank correlati...

Knee Kinematic Improvement After Total Knee Replacement Using a Simplified Quantitative Gait Analysis Method

Objectives: The aim of this study was to extract suitable spatiotemporal and kinematic parameters to determine how Total Knee Replacement (TKR) alters patients’ knee kinematics during gait, using a rapid and simplified quantitative two-dimensional gait analysis procedure. Methods: Two-dimensional kinematic gait pattern of 10 participants were collected before and after the TKR surgery,...

The incidence of physiological radiolucency following Oxford unicompartmental knee replacement and its relationship to outcome.

Narrow, well-defined radiolucent lines commonly observed at the bone-implant interface of unicompartmental knee replacement tibial components have been referred to as physiological radiolucencies. These should be distinguished from pathological radiolucencies, which are poorly defined, wide and progressive, and associated with loosening and infection. We studied the incidence and clinical signi...

Position of the Quadriceps Muscle Actuator Influences Knee Loads during Simulated Squat Testing

INTRODUCTION Since the introduction of total knee replacement (TKR) in the 1970s, a variety of devices have been created to test the mechanics of prosthetic knee components. One of these, the ‘Oxford Rig’ simulates knee flexion with a universal joint at the hip, a ball joint at the ankle, and pelvis stage that slides on vertical rails. This simulator provides an indication of knee function duri...
